Introduction to European Integration Guest Lecture: Seeking Peace in Chronic Israel-Palestinian Conflicts
We were honored to have a distinguished international scholar, Dr. Roi Siberberg, join Professor Luo Chih-Mei’s “Introduction to European Integration” class on September 24, 2025. The special lecture, invited through a campus collaboration with the Lung Yingtai Cultural Foundation’s Taiwan Peace Fellow program, was titled “How to Seek Peace in Chronic Israel-Palestinian Conflicts.” It provided a fascinating exploration of how dialogue, exchange, and mutual understanding can help de-escalate tensions and resolve disputes.
Dr. Siberberg offered a multifaceted perspective, examining the conflict’s complexities through the lenses of history, culture, and international relations. He explained the historical context and current state of the conflict, while also highlighting that even in such a challenging situation, opportunities for peace remain. He emphasized that peace is not a single event, but a continuous process that requires sustained effort from both sides.
This lecture not only gave students a deeper understanding of the Israel-Palestinian issue but also encouraged them to apply these insights to other regional dynamics, such as cross-strait relations. The talk inspired students to consider how goodwill, communication, and mutual understanding can be used to find common solutions when facing disagreements.
